What is Schengen and what is it for?
The countries of the European Union signed an agreement in 2003 that establishes free transit between them.

People who wish to transit freely and were not born in Europe must meet the requirements there. These are established: basically visas, if applicable, departure ticket, hotel reservation or letter of invitation, and travel insurance with specific characteristics, which ensures medical care and repatriation in case emergency or sinister.

Schengen insurance is mandatory to enter European territory and must be valid for the same period as you are in the territory. Must Possess:

  • 30,000 Euros of medical coverage in the event of an accident.
  • 30,000 Euros of sickness assistance.
  • Health Repatriation.
  • It cannot have deductible amounts nor can it be for reimbursement.
  • The insurance company must have at least one subsidiary in Europe.


The countries that are currently members of the Schengen treaty are: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Estonia , Finland, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Sweden.
